To celebrate Europe Day on Thursday 9th May 2019 we are holding a punt parade on the river Cam.

We’ll meet at Garrett Hostel Bridge at 5.30 PM to board our punts, and then proceed with flags flying along the backs. We’ll bring a selection of flags and bunting, but please also bring your own EU, national, regional, or rainbow flag (or any other flag you think appropriate!).

We’ll need several volunteers to meet us a little earlier to take the punts we’ve hired to Garrett Hostel Bridge, so if you fancy your skills at punting let us know at info@cambridgestays.org.uk.

After the parade we’ll head over to the Maypole Pub where we’ve booked a few tables upstairs from 7.30 PM to continue the celebration.

Europe Day held on 9 May every year celebrates peace and unity in Europe. It marks the anniversary of the historical ‘Schuman declaration’, when at a speech in Paris in 1950, Robert Schuman, the then French foreign minister, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe’s nations unthinkable.

We believe this vision of a united, peaceful, free and democratic Europe is more important today than ever, and is worth celebrating and defending.

See you on the 9th!
