At 7.30 PM on Tuesday 16 November Professor Andy Jordan of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at UEA will join Cambridge for Europe to discuss Environmental Policy after Brexit in Britain and the EU.
In this event, Professor Jordan will talk through trends and challenges in environmental policy making in the EU and Britain after Brexit, followed by questions from the audience.
About this event
Every European nation faces a multitude of environmental challenges, including biodiversity loss, climate change, energy insecurity, and water and air pollution. Historically, the EU has had a hugely important effect on how environmental policy responses are framed and implemented, particularly in Europe but also in other parts of the world. Recent developments, including Brexit, have pushed EU environmental policy making into more uncertain times where continuing political support for strong action is not a given. At the same time, the future of Britain’s own approach is still unclear. Standards are up for grabs, while the impact of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the EU and new Free Trade Agreements with other nations are complex or unknown.
About Professor Jordan
Andy Jordan is Professor of Environmental Policy in the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at UEA. He is the author of several books on environmental policy making and recently edited (with Viviane Gravey) the 4th edition of Environmental Policy in the EU: Actors, Institutions and Processes. He has advised the OECD, the UK Cabinet Office, DEFRA, the European Commission, WWF and the RSPB. In 2015-16 he advised the UK Parliamentary environmental audit committee inquiry on the EU referendum and in 2016-20 served on the Scientific Committee of the European Environment Agency. He currently sits on DEFRA’s Science Advisory Council: Social Science Expert Group.
