Today Paul Browne, Chair of Cambridge Stays, released the following statement welcoming the result of the General election:
Cambridge Stays congratulates Daniel Zeichner on his re-election as MP for Cambridge. Daniel has been a steadfast supporter of the UK remaining a member of the EU, both before and in the months since last year’s referendum, and we look forward to continuing to work with him to secure the best future for Cambridge and the UK as a whole.
We also congratulate Heidi Allen on her election as MP in South Cambridgeshire, and urge her to continue to be a strong voice for Europe within the Conservative party.
Theresa May called this election to get a stronger mandate for the adversarial and damaging Brexit her government has been pursuing since July 2016. Yesterday the people of the UK refused to give her that mandate. The people of the UK have rejected using EU nationals as bargaining chips, they have rejected the economic self-harm of leaving European single market, they have rejected the notion that “No deal is better than a bad deal”.
Cambridge Stays believes that the best deal for the UK is to remain a member of the EU, and we will continue to campaign alongside people across the UK to achieve this in the months and years to come.”
